Fingered At The Dinmore

I won’t spoil it for you but Ill let you make your own mind up on this one . Insult or re-living a sex act from the past ? Taken whilst on a preliminary recce for a new project documenting a council estate in Blackpool . This is the local pub ” The Dinmore ” with a local resident walking past it on Dinmore Ave . The pub has been closed down for 3 years and even when it was shut down they still , unfortunately , found dead bodies on the premises . Stories galore of which I intend to seek the best .

The Final Place

My latest project regarding place is based on cultural taboos and fears and problems surrounding death and our society .

So i have been documenting people who have been close to death .

Or places associated with death .

2 Feet .

Everything we do is subconsciously controlled by the thought of our own mortality . Our very culture was brought about to provide herd protection from our greatest fears and to prolong our inevitable fate . Sanitisation . Hospitals . Religion . Medicine . Genetics . Food . Our homes . Diet . Exercise ( to mention just a few ) you name it and ultimately it is a form of self preservation or security against the grim reaper .

But this growth and protection of ourselves through knowing that our final curtain will one day be drawn , leads us to excessive consumption of our surroundings to delay deaths rapid onslaught . Which in turn causes many of todays problems such as global warming and overpopulation .

I find it hard to believe that we could continue to sustain a population as big as ours and each individual within it with long healthy lives and not have the planet pay the ultimate price of complete extinction through our wanting of our own perpetuity . How Ironic ……

Death is like a cultural disease that eats away at society .

I wonder if it is possible for an intellectually evolved society to be convinced it is immortal ?

Searching For Gold .

JudgementCometh

The above image is a photoshop manipulation of a recent photograph I took based on a memory I have of a recurring dream with the sculpture being used as a stand in for me .

One of my attractions to Art and photography was the creative aspect  and finding an outlet with which to make my imagination become a reality in one form or another . I find it deeply satisfying and rewarding to create original work with new concepts . The creative aspect opens doors and leads me down paths i would not otherwise have known about and rewards me with more questions and ultimately more knowledge .

I have recently started down a path  where I am creating artistically , memorys from my dreams and screen memorys from childhood , and using it as a sort of subconscious dumping ground to channel my imagination into something concrete and worthwhile . Looking for a way to link my imagination to reality .

 I feel there is a connection .

My latest work has lead me to a question regarding place and memory , childhood memorys and their frailty . Can I prove this unreliability of memory of place through time artistically .

These glimpses of my childhood through time ,  what is their importance to me now ?

“If a certain childhood experience asserts itself in the memory, this is not because it is golden but because it has lain beside gold”
