Do you see the hand ….?
Abhorrent ! ….Disembodied , attached to naught .
What …. trembling ….despairs ,
are summoned forth ?
When your eyes connect ….
over a cold flesh caress .
Your hanging limbs ….
with darkness near ….
A named aversion ….dread is here ?
A twitching due …two secret fears !
The basement door is opened now ….
To close it…. You know not how .
Those secrets wished to be unknown ….
forever smite you in your home !

Well i don’t know about all the people wanting to get into this country at the moment but i just want to get out of it . You would not believe how hard it is compared to 20 years ago when you could just go and get a passport at the post office , obtaining it the same day or else a courier would deliver it to you the day after .
I had to speak to two separate interviewers and give them my whole life story from what cereal I ate ( Cheerios lol ) to the route I take to Uni in the morning street by street and also at one point i mentioned what colour socks I wear in bed . This lady was obviously very easy to talk to and we were talking for ages about the strangest of things that you wouldn’t expect to be a topic in a interview for a passport . She asked me why I couldn’t immediately remember my childs DOB and that her husband was exactly the same and winds her up because he pretends he doesn’t know it when really he does ….. ^^ well thats what he trys to make out . Also what car I had and we continued to compare each others , She had a Honda civic . What clothes i usually wear and how long Id had my beard ??
The next 5 minutes were filled with her enquiring about my camera and me handing her a card explaining I am a photographer and she may be appearing on a website ( If she doesn’t mind her picture being took ) . Then i gave her the name and we talked about her shyness to cameras but eventually she seemed quite happy about it . She actually started to enjoy it and shouted her manager out for a portrait but he refused too busy drinking tea and eating biscuits lol .
All in all it was an enjoyable day and i even got to use two rolls of medium format film on the pentax 67 . I never thought Id be allowed to take pictures in a passport office it all seemed very highly secure full of locks and CCTV … Very security conscious . Well its the first time i have done that and probably the last ……

The above image is a photoshop manipulation of a recent photograph I took based on a memory I have of a recurring dream with the sculpture being used as a stand in for me .
One of my attractions to Art and photography was the creative aspect and finding an outlet with which to make my imagination become a reality in one form or another . I find it deeply satisfying and rewarding to create original work with new concepts . The creative aspect opens doors and leads me down paths i would not otherwise have known about and rewards me with more questions and ultimately more knowledge .
I have recently started down a path where I am creating artistically , memorys from my dreams and screen memorys from childhood , and using it as a sort of subconscious dumping ground to channel my imagination into something concrete and worthwhile . Looking for a way to link my imagination to reality .
I feel there is a connection .
My latest work has lead me to a question regarding place and memory , childhood memorys and their frailty . Can I prove this unreliability of memory of place through time artistically .
These glimpses of my childhood through time , what is their importance to me now ?
“If a certain childhood experience asserts itself in the memory, this is not because it is golden but because it has lain beside gold”

Here i am dealing with binarys . Utopia/Dystopia …… Ballardian themes .
Utopian Destruction ? Dystopian modernity ? Problems arising from perfection ?
Utopia a perfect society .
Highly desirable .
But perfect creations have unforeseen Dystopian consequences .
Ballardian Themes .
This is basically dystopia ,
dystopian modernity , bleak man made landscapes . Which relates more to previous dystopian ideas that have gone wrong . Not just how technology affects us negatively but how they collide .
Whilst trying to improve society we have often come across problems that cold have been avoided with great vision . Unknowingly we have created monsters from our dreams only to realise them at a late hour and so they tend to stick about for a bit or at least until morning when we have the light to see a solution , which sometimes may be too late ……
A recent project of mine Queenstown The last 7 shows this utopian destruction in the lives of 7 individuals .
It tells a story of ordinary people striving to live alongside social problems , created through by a grandiose desire to solve these social problems in the first place …. But then in reality causing cracks in these utopian dreams . Working class people surviving together amongst this dystopia using their own solutions . Society installed these rules and ideas which influenced and affected them and it shows clearly amongst the residents . It shows ideas instilled by a culture and people living their lives accordingly through these concepts . A proud and patriotic sub culture leaving their old lives behind with a strong desire for a better future .
Could these architectural flaws of utopian art have been avoided ?
So ….On appearance all seems well but actually if you delve deeper beneath the surface there are big problems .
Once it may of seemed like a good idea but it all too soon went wrong .
Another good ballardian reference , to me , would be technology and post apocalyptic nightmares caused through AI overpowering the human race or contacting an alien civilisation , War of the Worlds being a good examnple of the latter . Dystopian ballardian imagery has a connection with technology . Post apocalyptic breakdown of society through searching for utopian dreams causing a dystopian nightmare e.g. nuclear power . We can use the tech but it can cause problems .
An illustration of something in society that has gone bad .The internet ? Vaccinations ? Healthcare ? Religion ? Greek society ? All made to be good but are going wrong or doing so in our era .Something that was meant to be good but has gone bad .
Use different themes to speak of an uncertain future .
Mankind has created a heavy burden it carries on its shoulders and now has a big job on its hands to keep this planet running smoothly and to not destroy our world through its addiction to power and domination . We don’t want be another civilisations scientific find in a million years that may help prevent their extinction we need to have this vision to prevent these problems from happening in the first place and strive to a great future .

Apart from the obvious WHAT IS A PHOTOGRAPH ?
To me a photograph is a flat 2d windowed image made with light . It is a time travel tool , the pen of the future . It is a means of education so we can learn from our mistakes . It is a way to educate our children of times gone by , our historical legacy .
I see that photograph is a moment made eternal . An eternal experience of a previous existentiary moment for our future and immediate learning and future generations progression .
In Roland Barthes camera lucida there is a wetplate image of Lewis Payne on his way to death . He is a condemned man just staring into the void . His stare is a death trance . He has accepted his fate and is on his way to the grim reaper . Our viewing of this dead mans trance like death stare could not be possible if not for the camera . Its times like these when i truly realise how much and why i love this amazing tool .
I have been thinking of this all week and it has fascinated me again and Last night i had a dream about taking pictures of the future ??? This seems quite ludicrous and impossible . Yes physically it may be so , but im sure there is some way using quantum mechanics that this may be possible ……..anyway , that is another story that needs a lot more research . But for now i am thinking about conceptually showing this via the photograph in my next project and mixing it with a view on societys reactions to ideas they hate and showing a physcological behaviourial instinct quite common in homosapiens which is the cause of this worlds terrible daily atrocities . I will use the ideas of feminism and rascism to express my idea which i will use in module 404 .

Well after thinking About about other ideas for nostalgia related images , the film ” Toy Story ” sprung to mind and i thought of how i get a sense of nostalgia when i think of my old toys and games i used to play with when i was younger . I thought i would do an image based around this .
I think when we was children we all liked to think our toys came to life when we slept , as in the film we all loved when we were adults . So I put my perspective as if the viewer was another toy coming to life as the lights go dim and looking up at your partner(toy friend ) in toy crime as he leaves the safety of the toybox . To give it a more nostalgic sense i made it look as if done on a wetplate . I balanced the car on the lid to give a sense of cautious precariousness as he is climbing out , when he knows he shouldnt . If the car falls then surely he would wake up his owner .
