On all your pages and social networking sites you should specificly cross link your most popular sites in the heading or details to provide your best sites with slightly more exposure but also giving your lesser known pages some equal attention and likely hit rate . Therefore think about the likely hood of the link being seen and where it is posted according to a viewer who will look at your site or page and also what the chances are from this visbility to if or how they will see it when clicking or stumbling across your page . You want the most visibility and likleyhood of a response . So if and when some one comes to your page they will most likely notice the link and and chain look through all your sites thus giving them the most exposure and hits .
Although I would not recommend facebook and would prefer google plus and twitter , I suppose I use because I feel I have to . It may help in sharing my work and getting minor publicity . So … Use facebook and post images from your own pages with specific targeted keywording and also more rare but precise and subject informed to increase chances of being noticed and noticed by the right people as well as with links to your own websites and published work included in the image , then post them to different groups with lots of members and specific subject matter .
Use google plus and post images from your own page with specific targeted keywording and with links to your own websites and published work included in the image , then post them to different google plus communities with lots of members and specific similar subject matter to gain the most followers and shares thus exposure .
I Use 500 px for validation and motivation as it is more frequently used by real practicing members of the photographic community . Getting a response on here should mean more than a facebook page as it is uninfluenced by other people and societal constructs or personal barriers so it is a more pure form of recognition in your passion of photography . 500 px has caused people to search for me online regarding work and job opportunitys . I also use it as a visual eye opener to search for works I myself would aspire to . Again Use 500 px with specific targeted keywording and with links to your own websites on your front page and published work included in the show image space .
Twitter is good again for getting promoted or valuable publicity online as it has a direct link to the most inspiring and biggest names in your field . It would only take one time at being sought out , seen or recognised by someone with clout to rocket your practice into unknown levels . I see twitter as one of the most valuable ways to get noticed by the right people . Facebook is the last choice , if good at all as it comes with the baggage of social barriers and negative constructs of society at your home level , people are not capable of there own susceptiveness on facebook they are like sheep to the alpha . It will be no good until you make it for real if any at all even then . It is all a physchological tool of no use to your career aims at a basic level .

It is important to be earning money to carry on your practice and make your practice sustainable . Learn the formula and exploit the system .
Market research .
General theory regarding marketing .
The process through which goods and services move from concept to customer . Marketing is the rounded process that covers the inception of a product or service . Bringing your concept to the customer understanding it with regards to the customer .
The 6 ps ?
Product or service .
Selling my ideas is more of a service than a product . Should solve an urgent need for a customer . A service needs the right feature , it should be easy to use and visually attractive .
Me as a person will sell my work its my branding that people will buy . The look of my service and its quality .
I need Business cards a readily available website zeen with a need a good brand . It’s not neccesarily the high quality of the product as Mc Donald’s provide a reliable product but it has a terrible quality but through conformity people buy it . Imitate conformity so people know what they are getting every time Through consistency of the product great logo and branding .
Marketing for services
Let the customers know who you are . Sell yourself and specialise in one area so people look for you because you are the man for this job . Eg Portrait man takes the best portrait photos so you have established a reputation for being that sort of professional . Let people know by your branding and social media websites . It’s a long winded process of establishing a reputation . Is someone undercutting you , you preserve you high point charges because you are in business and provide a valuable service . It’s much easier to keep a customer than find a new one . Make customers happy and provide a good service and become freindly with them .
The ladder . Climbing the ladder . Improve your position on the ladder . It’s how the quality of your product and service is perceived and regarded by your customers on the ladder that counts . Consider where you wish to be . Consider price and service . Aldi have moved up the ladder because they provide a better service . Am I going to sell one image for a million like harrods or a million images for a pound each like poundland . I should be somewhere in the middle . Think where my customers are who will use my product eg London is a great area to sell your work . Develop a customer base in London .
Attracting my target customer . It’s about Building a relationship that I can turn into commerce .
I need to earn an income . Pricing my product I must know 4 things . My own costs that I have on my own materials and work etc .
What is the standard , mark up , profit margin on the service I provide . Is my work of value . What value am I to my customer . If I have a unique vision I can charge more . This is where I will focus my work on the unique concept and my own vision . What will it cost the customer to not have what I’m offering .
Make sure you charge the proper costs eg don’t do anything for cheap make sure you have the correct prices . You can then grow the business and pay employees . There is no limit to my financial success .
What is my work and where am I as a practicioner .
Getting your work out in the industry and known by contacting people in the industry and advertising myself , my work , ideas and putting out a public persona . Zeens , social media , contacting businesses , business cards and Magazines . Attending events where you can network or meet potential employers and find important contacts in the business to Manufacture a community .

Getty found out that green images were toxic due to compassion fatigue . People used to just switch off when they saw them . The greens Rachel Carson . Silent spring . They produced green images that worked in the way advertising worked . People buy a commoditie because of desire or wants .it gets you a physical outcome . You buy it because of desire factors or aspiration . Commodity fetishism . Stop producing toxic myths regarding the environment and use new ways of promoting the environment to sell more products . Eg Reinvent the myths . Compassion fatigue . Eg if you see shocking pictures of starving children etc we are shocked at first but eventually we don’t give a shit . This is compassion fatigue . For Getty be understanding of the visual culture and university topics such as scale and place binarys etc . Put your images online and people may buy them .
Image as commodity eg , the image as a raw material to sell . Not many creatives think of their work as a commodity .How do you think about the image for a specific use as a commoditie . Stock can help us out as a sustainable practice to keep income coming in and thus supporting my practice in between .
Try and enter some images in a stock agency it could make you rich eg the Tim Flash green frog and or the handshake image , find a gap in the market and target it .
With a commodity image the branding and personality has been removed . You need to think what the market needs . The image subscribes to international standards and is needed in the market . This image will fit in your company report . It’s a well thought out and constructed image as a commoditie for the market .
If you are Shooting for stock you have to think …
Analyse sales and try to understand why certain images are selling and others are not .
Who is the client ?
e.g. if shooting for magazines you have to shoot portrait for front cover shots . If you target a niche magazine on dogs you have to shoot dogs . Think about your audience and target them . People would buy an animal magazine due to cuteness and their anthropomorphic behaviours eg we would have to shoot to these certain specifications and add them to the commodity . Eg Fluffy eared younger species for a western market . but the German market is far less citified so you have to take this into account , you have to think about who your client is .
Or you could shoot for a Calendar . If you shoot for calenders you shoot 2 or 6 . Shoot trees or and image in the different seasons for a Calendar . Birthday cards are a winner with cuteness again and fluffy ears .
Produce images that transcend cultural difference . Some differences are better than others at this .
Wants list . Grail syndrome
Eg the magpie in a nest is impossible to find so everybody wants this image . Or eg people with a smile at zoos why not ? People don’t smile at zoos , people who go to zoos are ugly , real ugly . Do you ever see the perfect family composition at the zoo . Unless you are being commissioned at a zoo getting this shot is hard to get . But if you are commissioned by a zoo I can license them to the zoo .
I need to get real about licensing and copyrighting my work . I make money with photography so therefore be serious about people re using my images . I need to take copyrighting very seriously .
How I tag my images on 500 px or my WordPress blog online . Be more efficient with your key wording to discriminate my images from the rest . Eg if you tag frog and sustainable you get less hits and images shown so your image has more chance of standing out . It is better to think more business like than creative to be successful at this . The Tim flash frog image . Tim works with Getty closely and the frog image made him his fortune it has made millions . The Tim flach image transcends cultural barriers . It’s cute . Has a colour clash to draw the eye and stands out a lot . target and feed into my own work in original ways exactly why this image was a successful seller ?
The personality of Alamy images . In the beginning they would take anything to start withand sell it . They are now famed for the breadth of their subjects and are starting to weed out the images that dont sell . Images are now ploughed into philanphropic endeavour . It used to be the place where you put all the images you wasn’t doing anything with . You should engage with stock and sue the above techniques to your advantage .

Go to archives for research on my projects , find Something that stands out in my practice . I enjoy photoshop its as if I am painting which is what I also love . I am particularly attracted to documentary and the uncanny . A few of my inspiring photographers are Giacomo brunelli , Bresson , Bruce gilden and Klein .
The idea and the message matters the most . I want my work up on people’s walls and Making a difference . I want to find something totally unique and original that changes society for the better . A unique vision . The ultimate message . Creating beauty from an underlining underbelly of social failure ?
- Find a new reason for photography . A new way to again validate people’s trust in the image . People have lost trust due to modern technology .
- To be acknowledged as a great photographer
I love the aesthetic values , deep layes of metaphor and metonymic language in an image the more the better . I like and enjoy creativity and get satisfaction from the end result of making new things .
Where can I gain a foothold in the industry .
First solution responses
Synthesise new knowledge and look for the unknown in my passions , as this is not a hindrance but a joy to do so . What lies beyond this . Enhance my visual vocabulary . Start thinking differently as a scientist or even a mathematician . Equate and experiment withy my practice through these experiments I’m going to find something I did not know . Stand back and look at my surroundings to find exactly what it’s all about .

A cv is a transaction of entering the industry . You need it when developing your sustainable practice .
What do employers want
I am looking to be self employed . My personal brand is what people say about you when your not in the room .
ALL MY WORK WILL FORM MY BRAND .
I need to demonstrate in my cv that I can do the job successfully . Show my passion and that I will love the job an employer will then know I will work hard and trust in me . Demonstrate that I will love it by showing my love for photography and all my projects etc in the cv . Show I Can be worked with and what am I bringing to the company , show the employer how if they don’t hire they will be making a mistake .
At the top we have the heading which is my personal details . I put my name , Professional email and mobile number together with links to my work .
My professional profile is a short punchy and positive statement . To ensure the employer or client gets a feel for the role and area of practice I am interested . It should also encourage them To read on . Avoid overblown unsupported superlatives eg like incredibly experienced . Demonstrate by the things I have how brilliant I am and where I am going in this world .
The best example is …A Ba Hons Photography student studying at Blackpool and the Fylde college . I am seeking work experience . My interest is blah blah …….aspects of photography . And working in blah blah . My final dissertation was on and deepened my knowledge and love of photography . I feel there is … and I can do this for photography .
The 4 A ‘ s
- Activity set the scene
- Aim what did you set out to achieve
- Action what did you do to achieve this task
- Achievement what was your outcome , good or bad .
Then after my personal statement I include my personal qualifications and Professional training . Do reverse chronological order concentrating on quals and Proffessional training . Summarise GCSEs , Proffessional experience and individual or team projects , exhibitions , competitions , scholarships , study tours , proffessional development , publications , collaborations , zeens books etc . Also include a link to my personal website with a teaser . Creatives deal with the unknown so reflect this .

To engage with the industry in some way shape or form and take place in some kind of industrial research .
You have to prepare a document cv and learn how to put a good one together and be more efficient at doing so as a specific type of cv is required .
It’s also a good idea to do a work placement or work experience ( Imagine getting a work experience with one of your aspirations such as Bruce Gilden ) This would be good ….But what will you learn ? It is superior practice to get a work experience in somewhere where you learn something . It’s of greater value to yourself to synthesis something worthwhile out of it . The quality of your placement doesn’t matter what matters is how much you learn from it . You need to put some effort into this eg email places , use Twitter to contact people and create your own employment . Encourage your own individual entrepreneurialism and make sure you get stuck into it . There are methods of gaining funding for this from the student hardship or access fund eg travel expenses etc will be funded . Set up a kick starter if it’s a good idea . Get to grips with what you are interested in or excited about . We are artists and creators we pull beautiful things out of nothing .
Britain has a good creative industry and has good cultural ideas bringing a lot of money into the country .
Our country is sustainable through trickle down economics . If we make the country a playground for rich people will it sustain us as a country .? Large organisations run on big ideas they want to be hooked into the culture before anyone else . Think about how my visual skills could help a big company out like this .
Where are these placements ?
1 The web .
Prospects web site to search for work placements . Look abroad for a placement . If it looks scary you should definitely be going there .
The big choice ( website , large organisations ) large organisations generally have a small place for people in work experience . *Indeed . ( website ) search Photography placement England . A motivated person can turn these into something good .
2 Approaching practitioners . You can cold call but sometimes they don’t like this but I think this is a good idea . Going to the employers and making friends with them it could get you a placement easier and quicker . Get your strategy sorted . Email them .
Try Hothouse . You can present your work this is the route you need to take . People want to hire their pals so it would be a good idea to create bonds and friendships . Get your name down on the events that are offered you .
3 Professional body for photographers . *Association for photographers ( I joined the AOP as a student member and gained lots of insight and numerous benefits . As a member I would advise that you need to be a member of this peer group . There is an app a magazine and insurance . Usage calculator , which calculates your work .
You could also enquire about The British institute for professional photography .
4 Entering competitions . I would also advise on entering as many competitions as possible such as lensculture , sony photography awards taylor wessing or BJP . Not only for your own personal pleasure but for many reasons such as exposure to people in the industry and help in growing your skills and reputation Also the prizes are a great incentive . If you have any luck as I did through entering the lensculture portrait awards you may win a prize such as an editors portfolio which helped me and increased my confidence . All the work I post to this portfolio goes straight to the lensculture editiors which is also a great incentive to do quality and original work .
5 The Agency . This is an opportunity in my own college and located in blackpool it could give you a placement in photography .
How could I get my hands on a work placement
1 Become friends with them .
2 Be professional .
3 Do a good speech .
4 Prepare a covering email
5 Prepare an online portfolio
Start writing a covering email . Mail chimp, it can see if your email is effective or your website is effective . it checks how long people look at your email or open it for etc . Invite people to look at my website .
Attach a pdf portfolio .
Persuade . Blag .
How to write a covering email
Detail your reason for the email, i.e. to deliver a CV as part of your job application;
- Give the exact details of the job you’re applying for i.e. the company name, position and any reference number;
- Highlight which skills you have that would be relevant for the position
- Make sure you finish the letter on a positive note. Perhaps try something like ‘I believe that I have all the skills and experience necessary to make a success of the position. I hope to hear from you soon.’
Because email is a more instantaneous and friendly form of communication, you should leave out your address details, go straight into ‘Dear XYZ’.
- Use the journalists ‘rule of thumb’ and try and keep sentences fewer than 35 words long;
- Try and get someone else to read over your email before you send it;
- Save all job application emails and applications (if you can) as they could be useful to refer to if you need to answer any questions;
- Don’t be too formal;
- Don’t excessively repeat anything;
- Keep your email short and sweet.

For just one coin …
He will take your hand
and row across the black abyss.
Hell sweep you to his threshold,
into purgatory where you can’t possibly exist .
