In our main technical studio session today with Dave Gregory we were given another assignment . We have to pick 6 words from an available 9 of which I will write a short dictionary definition below to get me started
The quality or condition of being modern .
A sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past .
The quality of being graceful and stylish in appearance or manner .
Great wealth or luxuriousness .
Plainness and simplicity in appearance .
A feeling of great pleasure and happiness .
1 . An image seen in a mirror or shiny surface .
2 . A thing bringing discredit to someone or something .
it was a sad reflection on society that because of his affliction he was made an outcast .
The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively . The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society
The state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones) .
Then make 6 separate images Based on each of the words we picked . We need to actively research and think deeply into each words meaning to discover original creative ways of expressing them in our images .
Dave was talking to us about ways of seeing things and expressing them . He used a pen as a talking point around this and explained objective and interpretive meanings in an image eg the objective pen is just about its form as an object ( click , oh look a pic of a pen ha ) but the interpretive ( Look and think what the object means ) pen is how we explain what the pen is and what it has done for us or can do . For example , the pen has been the most important invented tool the human race has known because it enables us to put our thoughts on paper and communicate with one another .
Then he went on to explain some of the meanings of a few of the words eg opulence means lavish excessively dressed people draped in jewellery with a lavish lifestyle and we looked up the dictionary definition of culture which was “ the arts and other manifestations of collective human achievement “ .
